The subject of food waste is very much in the news. According to data released in the report, Food wastage footprint: Impacts on natural resources, published by the FAO’s Natural Resources Management and Environment Department in 2013, food waste is responsible for the emission of 3.3 billion tonnes of CO2 a year. The loss of land, water and biodiversity attributable to food waste, plus the negative impact it has on climate change, represent a high cost for the whole of society that has yet to be properly quantified.
— When is the Commission planning to publish the communication on sustainable food?
— Is it going to set up a database of best practices to share the most positive experiences in terms of making the best possible use of food resources in the Member States?
