Cancer prevention in Italy and Europe

Question for written answer E-002466-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Mara Bizzotto (NI)

According to the Associazione italiana per la ricerca sul cancro (Italian Cancer Research Association), 3 500 new cases of cervical cancer are reported in Italy every year. In the United Kingdom in the last 10 years the incidence of this disease has increased by 59.2% among women aged between 25 and 29, not least because 33.7% of women in that age group do not take the Pap test.

Does the Commission intend to launch a campaign to raise awareness of the effectiveness of regular medical examinations and checks in preventing cervical cancer?

Can it provide statistics concerning the incidence of this disease in the Member States?

Can it say whether funding is available for programmes designed to prevent this disease?
