In June 2014, the European Council adopted a maritime safety strategy establishing a common framework at both national and European level in order to protect the strategic maritime interests of the EU. In December 2014, a detailed action plan for making this framework a reality on the ground was presented.

The aim is to protect our seas and oceans from threats ranging from piracy, organised crime, pollution and human trafficking to illegal fishing and international conflicts.

When is this action going to be implemented and which areas will be given priority in this respect?
