High-speed railway lines on the Adriatic coast

Question for written answer E-003534-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Raffaele Fitto (PPE)

The introduction of high-speed railway lines on the Tyrrhenian coast of Italy has resulted in better railway services between that part of the country and the north/centre, bringing them up towards the required European standards. However, no high-speed railway lines have yet been built on the country’s Adriatic coast, where the railway infrastructure consists of equipment that is technologically obsolete, rolling stock that has quite clearly had its day, and lines that are still (somewhat incredibly) one-track, even though they pass through areas that are renowned for being hydrogeologically unstable.

In light of the above, how does the Commission intend to promote, within the scope of the TEN-T programme, measures aimed at bringing high-speed and high-capacity railway lines to the Adriatic coast as well?
