The Compensatory Allowance for Natural Handicaps (CANH) plays a very important role in many French territories, particularly high-mountain areas.

However, the European Commission seems to be casting doubt on the award of this specific allowance, which is vital to the maintenance of farming and, far beyond that, a sustainable natural balance in these areas.

What is the Commission's position on this matter?
