VP/HR — Italian seamen detained under inhumane conditions in The Gambia

Question for written answer E-003977-15
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Mario Borghezio (NI)

Two Italian seamen, Sandro De Simone and Massimo Liberati, are being held in the terrible Mile Two Prison in Banjul, capital of The Gambia, charged with a minor infringement of the fisheries regulations.

Apparently the two seamen are being held in particularly inhumane conditions. Amnesty International reported on the situation in that prison a while ago.

Does the High Representative intend to intervene urgently with the competent Gambian authorities to remedy the situation unjustly suffered by the two Italian seamen?
