Filiation and social chaos

Question for written answer E-004234-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Jean-François Jalkh (NI)

In the United Kingdom, a mother recently gave birth to a child whose biological father, who is in fact a homosexual, is none other than her own son. We have surrogacy to thank for this ‘step forward’.

The concept of filiation is being rendered completely meaningless: generations and genders are being intermingled. This child’s unusual family situation and the fact that his biological grandmother acted as his surrogate mother will surely have a negative impact on his development. Children with ‘complex’ backgrounds are placed in an absurd and cruel position entirely at odds with the principle of equal opportunities that European policies are supposed to safeguard.

Will the Commission be documenting the legislation on this issue in each Member State, and does it intend to harmonise the law on filiation at EU level?
