Follow-up to the Robolaw project

Question for written answer E-005104-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Mady Delvaux (S&D)

In 2012 the European Union financed the Robolaw project to study the social, legal and ethical implications of emerging robotic technologies (GA No 289092). The research was successful, and the study developed as Robolaw’s final product — the Guidelines on Regulating Robotics, released in September 2014 — has received considerable attention ever since, from both specialists and the public.

The study is now considered to be a reference in the robotics research field which could guide the adoption of a legal framework.

What concrete actions is the Commission suggesting in order to follow up the Robolaw project, given that the research is definitely not yet finished and is of growing importance and concern for Europe?

Why has the Commission not yet responded to the calls in the robotics field presented as part of Horizon 2020?
