Youth Guarantee in Malta

The growth of youth unemployment gives rise to an ever-increasing need for immediate and specific intervention with the aim of reducing the number of unemployed young people and minimising the number of NEETs (not in education, employment or training).

One of the main objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy consists of ensuring that young people have the easiest possible access to the world of the labour market or providing training courses leading to professional qualifications. The Republic of Malta has brought in a model guarantee for young people, the Youth Guarantee, which has proven effective in significantly reducing the negative effects of the current European economic crisis on new generations.

Although the implementation of this programme has brought about immediate positive effects, this solution does not seem fully able to resolve the structural problem associated with youth unemployment.

In view of the above, can the Commission answer these questions:
