The problem of ‘car sharing’

Question for written answer E-005632-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Dubravka Šuica (PPE)

It is a fact that ‘car sharing’ companies and their applications have, in the space of just four years, launched a revolution in urban public transport in 30 countries and more than 75 cities in the world. The philosophy of ‘car sharing’ is free competition, and the aim is to enable clients anywhere in the world to order, via the same mobile application, the nearest luxury car with a private driver. All of this, of course, in the shortest possible time and with a superior quality of service.

I am interested in the Commission's position towards the protection of data of registered users of websites that operate on the principle of ‘car sharing’, especially when we know that registered users provide their personal information and credit card data. Is there an EU regulation that covers data security in ‘car sharing’ systems?
