Rapid systematisation of external border checks

Question for written answer E-005850-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Rachida Dati (PPE)

On 12 and 13 March last, the ‘Justice and Home Affairs’ Council agreed on the systematisation of document and person checks at the external borders of the Schengen area, on the basis of a risk assessment, for June 2015.

As Mr Cazeneuve, the French Interior Minister, has recalled on many occasions, it is urgent to strengthen the implementation of the existing Schengen framework in light of the challenges posed by terrorism.

Mr Avramopoulos, Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, stated that a list of common risk indicators was being developed in coordination with the Member States, the European External Action Service, Frontex, Europol and Interpol.

A month after this statement, and in the European Council's prospect for June, could the Commission confirm that the list of indicators will soon be decided, with a view to rapid implementation of systematic checks at external borders?

Furthermore, will a reform of the Schengen Code be undertaken so this systematisation can be achieved?
