VP/HR — Daring to spell things out

Question for written answer E-005871-15
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Aymeric Chauprade (NI)

In a statement on 3 April 2015, you rightfully reacted to the Garissa attack and assured Kenya of the European Union’s support. You highlighted the resolve among terrorist groups to undermine the foundations of economic development in Kenya by attacking education as a nurturing ground for the elite.

Yet, nowhere was it mentioned in the statement that the majority of the 142 students killed in the Garissa massacre on 2 April were Christians. Nowhere was it acknowledged that these mass murders were committed by the Somali Islamist group al-Shabaab, which overtly claimed to have murdered students as they prayed in the university’s chapel.

Under the pretext of not ‘stigmatising’ a religion, you are seemingly closing your eyes to the reality of the organised massacre of a religious group by Islamist terrorism.

1. Are you intending to take a stance in favour of the Christians who are now being massacred all over the world?

2. Do you acknowledge that Islamist fundamentalism now poses the greatest threat to our civilisation?
