Employment opportunities for people with disabilities

Question for written answer E-005909-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Fulvio Martusciello (PPE)

For the disabled, a job represents an opportunity to evolve and grow, as it does for all of us, providing that the effort that the work requires is compatible with their personal physical and psychological attributes. The right to work must be recognised as an integral component of an individual’s general rights, and should play a key role in defining our autonomy, our goals and our strategies in life. The process of finding work represents one of the most critical challenges faced by people with disabilities, and the barriers that are unfortunately still in place today are mainly mental. While on the one hand the States intervene with specific laws, on the other, society is not always ready to accept them fully and spontaneously apply them.

What measures does the Commission believe are necessary to overcome this problem once and for all, and promote the integration of people with disabilities into both the world of work and into our society?
