Khaleda Jarrar was detained in the early hours of 2 April, when dozens of soldiers from the Israeli army attacked her residence in Ramallah, where she was with her husband and daughter.

Khaleda Jarrar, a 52-year-old lawyer, is a deputy of the Palestinian Parliament, leader of the PFLP and human rights activist, particularly active in the defence of the rights of political prisoners and of women’s rights, in organisations which Israel cynically considers illegal, making use of this condition as grounds to detain her.

Since 1998 she has been banned from travelling outside Palestine. She has been the victim of a continuous attempt to deport her to Jericho, which she has refused to accept. This is an illegal order, which breaches Israel’s obligations under international law and treaties, constituting an attempt at forcible transfer, unlawful confinement and persecution.

As of today, 18 Palestinian deputies are being held by Israel, nine of them in administrative detention, without trial and without any finding of guilt.

In view of the facts, which public position of rejection and condemnation of this act has the Council had the opportunity to take?
