Violence towards women

Question for written answer E-006935-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Aldo Patriciello (PPE)

In view of the following:

according to data from the European Agency for Fundamental Rights, 62 million women in Europe (33% of the female population) have been subjected to violence;

55% of women in Europe say that they have suffered some form of sexual harassment and, in one third of these cases, this was committed at work by a superior, a colleague or a customer;

the European Union’s goal is to eliminate every form of discrimination and to guarantee equal opportunities for both genders;

the Rights, Equality and Citizenship programme for 2014-2020 aims to prevent and combat every form of violence (whether physical, sexual or psychological) towards women, in both the public and private spheres, and to protect victims and groups at risk.

In light of the above, does the Commission intend to promote more effective initiatives to protect the rights of women?
