Article 26(5) of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers states that by 13 December 2014 at the latest the Commission would submit reports to Parliament and the Council regarding the mandatory indication of the country of origin or place of provenance for ingredients that represent over 50% of a food item.

Tins of albacore tuna (Thunnus alalunga), anchovies (Engraulis engrasicolus), sardines (Sardina pilchardus) and mussels (Mytilusgallo provincialis) comply with that regulation. However, European legislation does not include an obligation to display on the label the origin of these transformed or tinned products, thereby breaching the regulation.

In view of this, is the Commission planning to amend Article 67(11)(a) and (b) of Implementing Regulation (EU) No 404/2011, remove Article 68(5) of the same regulation and amend Article 35(1) of Regulation (EU) No 1379/2013 so that fishery and aquaculture products on sale to consumers must display their place of origin on their labelling?
