The European army: another excuse for a federal EU?

Question for written answer E-007874-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Aymeric Chauprade (NI)

In an interview published in the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, the Commission President stated that a European army would be a way of responding to the new threats to the Union’s borders. It would also tackle a serious crisis of credibility, with special reference to recent events in Ukraine and Russia’s stance.

Furthermore, Arnaud Danjean’s parliamentary report on the implementation of the common security and defence policy takes up the Commission’s idea of ‘tax incentives’ to coerce Member States into ‘cooperation and pooling’!

Is the Commission going to use the tax lever to deprive Member States of their sovereignty in foreign and defence policy?

Would the European army be the new Trojan horse leading to the creation of a European federal state?
