One of the main results emerging from the public consultations on ‘The urban dimension of EU policies — key features of an EU Urban Agenda’ was awareness of the need for better coherence between EU policies having an impact on cities. Better coordination within the Commission is a desirable way to achieve this.
In the Riga Declaration of Ministers ‘Towards the EU Urban Agenda’, the Member States called on the Commission to take concrete and immediate steps to improve the coordination and effectiveness of EU policies and instruments with an urban dimension .
Parliament has urged the Commission to ensure a higher degree of cross-sectorial coordination of policies with an urban dimension, and has called on the Commission’s DG REGIO to drive this process. Parliament has also asked the President of the Commission to ensure political impetus together with the College of Commissioners in order to give a strategic direction to the Urban Agenda.
In this respect, could the Commission inform Parliament regarding:
- — what steps it intends to take in order to proceed with the work towards the Urban Agenda;
- — who in the Commission will be responsible for the coordination of policies and instruments with an urban dimension, on both the political and the administrative level?
