The European Commission opens proceedings against Spain due to delays in the management of the Natura 2000 network

Question for written answer E-010946-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Ramon Tremosa i Balcells (ALDE)

On 12 March 2015, the European Commission opened proceedings against Spain due to delays in the management of the Natura 2000 network[1].

Spain adds around 2 000 areas to this network, which are representative of the four ‘biogeographical’ regions: the Mediterranean region, the Atlantic region, the Macronesian region (Atlantic archipelagos) and the Alpine region. As a result, Spain is the EU country that brings the most sites and the largest area to the network.

After three months, what is the current status of the infringement proceedings?

Have the Spanish authorities provided the Commission with a response on this matter?
