The low level of grants in agriculture

Question for written answer E-011178-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Daniel Buda (PPE)

Romanian farmers complain about the considerable differences between the level of agriculture grants allocated to Romania and the level of agriculture grants allocated to other EU countries. As the payment of the grants is done in accordance with the land area, the farms in Romania, most of them small, are unable to receive significant grants. Although Romania is one of the countries with an important agricultural potential in the European Union, the grant received by the Romanian farmers was of EUR 137/ha in 2013 and of EUR 157/ha in 2014, while the European average was EUR 270/ha.

Given the above, what are the measures the Commission has available in order to change this unfair policy regarding agriculture grants in the European Union?
