Gas interconnector between Serbia and Bulgaria

Question for written answer E-011316-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Aymeric Chauprade (ENF)

The gas interconnector between Serbia and Bulgaria is one of the EU’s priority projects, and the relevant Protocol has been signed.

The Commission maintains that this project will bolster energy security in the region and support the integration of EU neighbouring states, and is therefore proposing to help fund this project, 60% of which is on Serbian territory.

The EU delegation to Serbia reports that, since the year 2000, the EU has invested some EUR 200 million in the Nikola Tesla thermal power station and some EUR 550 million in various energy sector projects. What is the EU asking from Serbia as a condition for this funding?
