EU financing for the migrant problem

Question for written answer E-012085-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Kinga Gál (PPE)

According to a Commission communication of 10 August, around EUR 2.4 billion has been approved for the period 2014-2020 to help those Member States affected by the huge influx of migrants deal with the situation. The distribution of the sums approved does not, however, match the challenges currently being faced. Thus Hungary will receive a disproportionately small amount, even though it has the second-largest number of asylum applications after Germany and proportionally the largest number of asylum applicants per head of population. The amount of aid allocated takes no account whatsoever of the challenges facing Hungary, as 1 500 illegal immigrants cross its borders every day and over 100 000 immigrants have arrived there so far this year.

What data and numerical ratios were used when calculating the amounts to be allocated? Why does the distribution of the aid not reflect the reality of the figures given above?

Why does the proportioning of the aid not take into account the dramatic increase in migrants in 2015? As can be seen from the data for 2015, the numbers of immigrants have changed significantly in the Member States, and Hungary's exposure has increased drastically.

Does the Commission intend to review the aid allocation so as to reflect the real situation with regard to asylum-seekers?
