In the midst of the current refugee crisis several Member States have violated the right of asylum as established in the acquis communautaire and in international law.

These countries have violated this right by not processing asylum petitions, refusing to give shelter and help with relocation, and even by acquiescing to inhumane treatment for refugees.

As a result, the Commission opened 32 infringement procedures last week regarding asylum violations. Furthermore, President Juncker has declared that all Member States refusing to give sanctuary to refugees will have to pay economic compensation.

Considering that these Member States have violated the right to asylum acknowledged by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the European Union Charter of Fundamental Rights, and other international treaties, and given that their behaviour is not aligned with the principles of solidarity and respect for human dignity upon which the Union is founded, I ask the Commission:
