The EU should not remain indifferent to the upward trend in breast cancer, the specific nature and sensitivity of the problem and its impact in terms of human health.

Indeed, it is necessary for it to adopt a concerted and targeted approach to the problem and provide substantial financial funding for the necessary policies in all the Member States.

The designation of 2016 as Year of Breast Cancer will doubtless contribute to the intensification of efforts to combat breast cancer and encourage the direct involvement of the EU.

It will also enable the EU, its institutions and the Member States to adopt the necessary measures and policies, which can only be a good thing.

In view of this, does the Commission intend to adopt the proposal?
