Amount of funding allocated by the EU to Ukraine

In August 2015, the European Union delegation in Kiev announced that ‘the European Commission has disbursed a fourth tranche of EUR 8.55 million from Budget Support Programme “Support for Border Management Sector Policy in Ukraine”’.

The total cost of this support programme, implemented within the framework of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, is EUR 60 million.

Given that in a television interview on Ukrainian TV channel 1 + 1, Ukrainian President Poroshenko announced that he had signed contracts with a view to importing lethal weapons, can the Commission provide details on how much EU funding, or how many EU programmes, Ukraine has benefited from up to now?

Can it clarify whether these funds have helped finance or subsidise, either wholly or partly, directly or indirectly, the purchase of firearms or any other type of weaponry?

Lastly, what are its views on the Ukrainian President’s statements?
