Madad Fund to address the Syrian crisis

Question for written answer E-014350-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Esteban González Pons (PPE)

The Commission has launched the Madad Fund to address the humanitarian crisis in Syria, with a particular emphasis on providing assistance to refugees, many of whom are children.

There appears to be no sign of a lasting solution, and humanitarian organisations have warned that there are insufficient funds to tackle the crisis, predicting that up to 4.5 million Syrian refugees may reach the region by the end of this year. Does the Commission therefore plan to provide the Fund with further resources, in addition to the contributions from the European Neighbourhood Instrument and from countries such as Italy and Germany?

Given that the Board of the Fund is to meet for the second time in November 2015, to decide on new programmes to be implemented, can the Commission say what criteria it will use? Has the Commission made any specific studies on this matter?
