27.11.2015
Question for written answer E-015132-15
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Marie-Christine Arnautu (ENF)
For the past five years Turkey has been providing steady support to various radical Islamist terrorist groups which have been wreaking havoc in Syria. There is substantial evidence to suggest that Turkey is buying oil from the Islamic State terrorist group. On 24 November 2015, the Turkish air force shot down a Russian fighter plane involved in a military operation against Islamist groups.
Furthermore, since July 2015 the Turkish Government has been carrying out acts of violence against its own population, in particular against the Kurdish and Alevi minorities.
1. Will the Vice-President immediately freeze the 14 negotiating chapters for Turkey’s EU accession which are still open?
2. Does the Vice-President intend, on behalf of the EU, to call on NATO to expel Turkey on account of its support for these terrorist groups which are attacking NATO members?
