VP/HR — EU weapons sales to Saudi Arabia

Question for written answer E-000407-16
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Aymeric Chauprade (NI)

Saudi Arabia, the country which currently chairs the Advisory Committee of the UN Human Rights Council and which has pledged to protect and uphold human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law, began 2016 by executing 47 people.

Nevertheless, the EU continues to ignore its own Code of Conduct on arms exports and sell weapons to Saudi Arabia.

A major sponsor of Islamic terrorism, Saudi Arabia clearly has no desire for peace in Syria and continues to exert pressure on its international partners.

Should the EU not stop exporting weapons to a country which is a hotbed of international terrorism?
