VP/HR — Salah Lebsir

Question for written answer E-000573-16
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Paloma López Bermejo (GUE/NGL)

In the answer to Written Question E-009547/2015 on the detention of Salah Lebsir, the VP/HR stated that she was aware of his detention and that the EU was engaged in dialogue with various organisations and with the Moroccan authorities concerning cases involving the violation of human rights in the Occupied Territories of Western Sahara, including Salah Lebsir's.

Since then, following a trial which made a mockery of international judicial standards, Salah Lebsir has been sentenced to four years' imprisonment for activism on behalf of the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.

Is the VP/HR aware of the sentence imposed on Salah Lebsir?

Does she think that his right to fair trial was upheld?

What action can she take to guarantee his physical safety and that his fundamental rights are upheld and to secure his release?
