Discrimination at the workplace

Question for written answer E-001516-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Piernicola Pedicini (EFDD)

On 25 May 2010, Lieutenant Giuseppe Di Bello, a member of the Provincial Police Corps of Potenza (Italy), who for years performed environmental monitoring duties in the region, was accused of disclosing confidential information and suspended. From the start of the judicial proceedings, Lieutenant Di Bello was persecuted and demoted to a role not commensurate with his rank. Subsequently, a Court of Cassation judgment dismissed the convictions and the allegations made against him, but the affront to his dignity and professionalism remains, given that he has still not been reinstated in the duties he performed prior to his suspension.

In the light of Article 6 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, of the Aarhus Convention and of Directive 2000/78/EC, can the Commission say whether it is aware of the case outlined above?

What measures can be taken under EC law to protect the dignity of workers?
