1. The Commission has previously stated (E-009024/2014) that work which increases the capacity of locks is eligible for CEF funding. However, the CEF call for proposals in 2014 resulted in little or no CEF funding for inland locks. How exactly do projects relating to inland locks differ from other inland waterway projects, by way of an explanation for this result?
2. For sea ports, 50% of whose goods traffic involves the goods being transported on at least one leg of their journey by inland shipping, inland locks are vital as a way of reducing congestion. On the basis of what KPIs will the Commission measure the utilisation rate of locks in the core network corridors in order to identify the bottlenecks which detract from the efficiency of logistics in the core network?
3. In future CEF calls for proposals, on the basis of what criteria will the Commission assess applications for co-financing of projects which will not generate any income but which will produce socioeconomic benefits, including increases in the capacity of inland locks?
