Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 130
Ian Duncan (ECR)

Subject:  Trade between Europe and South-East Asia
 Answer(s)

The recent New Direction report on ‘Boosting EU Trade with South-East Asia’, authored by Dr Matthias Bauer, warns that Europe is already substantially lagging behind China and India in terms of trade and investment relationships with South-East Asia , and that years of EU technical assistance in the region have not produced any tangible results.

What steps is the Commission taking to address these issues, and what progress has been made towards signing a free trade deal with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN)?
