In May 2015, the Commission announced the creation of a pilot multi-purpose centre in Niger to be set up by the end of the year 2015. The aim of this centre is to provide realistic information to migrants about the likely success of their journey, to ensure protection at local level and to propose assistance for their voluntary return.
Since the establishment of this centre, little information has been made available:
- —What is the current state of play of this centre?
- —In 2008, the European Union, together with the authorities of Mali, established in Bamako, the Centre for Migration Management and Information (CIGEM). Funded by the 9th EDF, this centre offers reception, help, support and guidance to migrants. What are the lessons learned from this first experience, which can be today the specific feature of the centre in Niger?
- —Does the Commission envisage similar projects elsewhere and, if so, in which countries?
