Import checks on fisheries products

Question for written answer E-003663-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Clara Eugenia Aguilera García (S&D)

Various meetings with the European and, in particular, Spanish fisheries sectors and a series of debates in Parliament's Committee on Fisheries on the harmonisation of controls have revealed the widespread belief that import checks of fishery products are not carried out in a uniform manner across all borders of the Member States.

Such a situation, if this is indeed the case, would lead to inequalities in terms of both the rights of European consumers and the competitiveness of these products within a single market.

Is the Commission aware of any differences in how Member States check imports of fisheries products?

Can the Commission ensure that these checks are carried out in a uniform manner in all Member States?
