Management of EU funds for reception centres in Calabria

Question for written answer E-003728-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Laura Ferrara (EFDD) , Marco Valli (EFDD)

Enquiries made by the Italian authorities have failed to elicit any information on the funding provided under EU programmes for some of the asylum-seeker and migrant reception centres that are based in Calabria. Furthermore, during visits made by MEPs to the Isola di Capo Rizzuto centre (province of Crotone), the Hotel delle Ninfe centre in Amantea (Cosenza), the Pian del Duca centre in Lamezia Terme (Catanzaro), the Feroleto Antico centre (Catanzaro) and the Costabella and Torre S. Irene centres in Briatico (Vibo Valentia), it was impossible to gain a detailed picture of how funds disbursed under EU programmes were being used and what sums were involved.

1. Can the Commission provide details of the sums committed and actually disbursed in respect of each of the above centres in Calabria, as well as of the EU funds and/or programmes under which the monies were disbursed?2. Have the Commission or the national authorities carried out any audits that have brought to light irregularities and/or fraudulent practices in the management of the funds for those centres, and if so, what action has been taken on the findings of the audits?3. Has OLAF conducted any investigations that have identified instances of corruption, fraud or other irregularities in the management of those funds?
