Question for written answer E-005808-16

Rule 130
Amjad Bashir (ECR)

Radio has long played a crucial social, cultural and informative role across Europe and continues to do so, with over 80% of Europeans listening to the radio at least once a week. However, the Commission's Digital Single Market Strategy did not mention the digitalisation of terrestrial radio, which brings significant benefits to consumers and provides increased resource efficiency. Furthermore, the European semiconductor companies remain global leaders and are consistently at the forefront of technological developments.

Given the economic importance of this industry and the current status European companies have as global leaders in this field, what plans does the Commission have to ensure that Europe retains and enhances this status?

What measures does the Commission have planned to support the growing digital terrestrial radio sector in the context of the upcoming review of the Regulatory Framework for Electronic Communications Networks?
