Political situation in Libya

Question for written answer E-006812-16
to the Council
Rule 130

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of the former head of state of Libya, has been released. Libya's particularly chaotic and dangerous state makes it necessary to hear all stakeholders on the ground, even if their views do not at all correspond to ours.
The tribal councils in Libya have now asked for the only legitimate figure in their eyes, the son of the former Rais, to be allowed to play a unifying role. Similarly, General Haftar seems prepared to facilitate this transitional solution.
In light of these facts, we may well ask what the Council is waiting for before withdrawing its support for the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood, who have made the most of the weakness of Daesh on the ground to declare themselves to be our sole and special partners in dialogue.
Could the Council indicate its position in light of these new developments?
