Use of glyphosate

Question for written answer E-006853-16

Rule 130
Rolandas Paksas (EFDD)

Glyphosate is the main active ingredient in the widely-used herbicide Roundup. The World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) says that this substance is probably carcinogenic to humans and definitely carcinogenic to animals. It should be noted that the endocrine disruption of glyphosate has not been investigated.

Are there any plans to carry out independent research into the possible adverse effects of glyphosate on the environment and health and include glyphosate in the list of carcinogenic substances?

What measures are to be taken to reduce the use of glyphosate in public spaces such as parks, playgrounds and other places and also reduce the use of glyphosate on crops before harvest?
