The unique features of the fishing sector in the Outermost Regions (ORs) are known. Those features justify the use of a framework specific to those regions in the context of the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). Even their own framework is not enough, given the structural constraints that burden the regions and their coastal communities.
During my recent visit to the Autonomous Region of the Azores, a number of sector representatives asked what the state of play was with regard to the creation of a Regional Advisory Committee for the ORs.
Given the above, the Commission is asked to answer the following:
- — What is the state of play with regard to the creation of a Regional Advisory Committee for the ORs? What form will the Committee take and when is it expected to be up and running?
- — In light of the fact that the current legislative framework is inadequate, what assessments have been carried out and what other measures will be taken with a view to putting paid to the above constraints?
