Hydrogeological risk in the so-called Oltrepò Pavese area

Question for written answer E-006892-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Angelo Ciocca (ENF)

In Italy, the area beyond the River Po in the province of Pavia, known as the Oltrepò Pavese, has always been liable to hydrogeological instability due to water erosion.

The Oltrepò Pavese includes 78 municipalities, of the 188 which form the province of Pavia, and is subject to different kinds of earth movements affecting an area of some 200 km2 out of a total area of around 700 km2. It is currently one of the Italian areas with the highest number of landslides.

Parliament and the Commission have adopted legislative and operational instruments to protect the land which are totally insufficient when it comes to tackling the hydrogeological risk in the municipalities of the Oltrepò Pavese.

Defending the landscape of these areas means defending resources that are fundamental for the economic and cultural growth of Lombardy and of Italy, as well as protecting the safety of their inhabitants.

With reference to the above considerations, can the Commission say what structural and cohesion resources it intends to use in order to address the huge hydrogeological risk affecting the Oltrepò Pavese area?
