Question for written answer E-006951-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Neena Gill (S&D)

Last year, the world committed to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs), aiming to end extreme poverty by 2030. Achieving universal access to water and sanitation is essential to the success of the SDGs. Given the EU’s position as one of the world’s largest donors in the field of water and sanitation projects, its leadership is vital in this respect.

1. Can the Commission outline what steps will be taken to prioritise water and sanitation in its development policy upon completion of the current review process?

2. What steps is the Commission taking to mainstream the WASH sector (water — sanitation — hygiene) in other focal sectors such as food security and nutrition, agriculture, energy, regional integration, environment and peace and security?
