Indicators of audiovisual content that is inappropriate for minors

Question for written answer E-007002-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Jana Žitňanská (ECR)

Audiovisual content that is inappropriate for minors is increasingly easy to encounter nowadays. Although in the Member States content description systems are applied that divide audiovisual content into different categories and provide the appropriate minimum age for viewers or a warning of inappropriate content, the description systems vary enormously from country to country. Content that may be rated appropriate from the age of 15 in one Member State may be considered appropriate from the age of 7 in another.

1. Is the Commission planning to unify the description systems at EU level?2. In connection with the proposal for the revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, is the Commission planning to draw up guidelines or adopt other measures to ensure a unified interpretation and level of measures to protect minors from inappropriate audiovisual content, including but not limited to television and video-sharing platforms?

What other legislative or non-legislative measures is the Commission planning to adopt in this respect and by when?
