VP/HR — Mexico

Question for written answer E-007468-16
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Hans-Olaf Henkel (ECR)

On 21 September 2016, a group of NGOs wrote to the VP/HR with regard to the case of the 43 missing Mexican students. As a member of the delegation that visited Mexico last February and a lifelong defender of human rights, I strongly support this letter. The Ayotzinapa case is still ongoing, and numerous aspects of what happened on the night of 26 and 27 September two years ago remain very unclear. The Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts has stated that the support of European institutions is still vital for this investigation.

Has the VP/HR considered, as was asked in the letter, issuing a public statement to express concern for the lack of specific results and in support of the implementation of the investigation follow-up mechanism?

Would human rights be included in a possible updated version of the Global Agreement between EU and Mexico?
