Alleged aid for the Naples Port Authority

In the light of information published today in the Official Journal of the European Union, regarding alleged aid for the Naples Port Authority and Cantieri del Mediterraneo, the Commission has informed Italy of its decision to launch the procedure pursuant to Article 108(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), with regard to the aid measure in question.
According to the text of the summary, the total cost of the investments is EUR 51 929 854.50, with EUR 44 138 854.50 of public funding already granted or committed for the project. Moreover, the project concerns the structural refurbishment of three state-owned docks and the Commission does not rule out the possibility that there may have been an economic advantage above normal market conditions. Can it therefore say:
- 1.When it thinks the procedure will be completed, in order to give the Port of Naples some administrative certainty;
- 2.How it intends to proceed, should it identify any irregularities in the procedures;
- 3.How it intends to remedy the situation, if necessary, and whether the money would have to be reimbursed?
