Road safety in the European Union

Question for written answer E-009196-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Aldo Patriciello (PPE)

Today we are seeing a constant increase in the use of private road vehicles to move around within the Member States. Despite the progress made in the EU during the Third Road Safety Action Programme (in force between 2003 and 2010), the need to make further efforts nevertheless needs to be emphasised.

Given that the EU has set itself the goal of halving the number of road deaths in the Member States between 2010-2020, should the Commission not adopt further instruments to pursue the goals in question more effectively (for example: emergency services and post-accident care, or by improving the safety of road infrastructure)?
