Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund

Question for written answer E-009746-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
Tibor Szanyi (S&D)

The Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund (AMIF) is an important resource allocated to Member States in order to assist in the vital cause of integrating refugees into European culture and language. The EUR 3.137 billion fund is to be spent over 7 years. The lack of accountability required of Member States in administering the funds is alarming, considering the fund’s crucial aims and the substantial size of the investment.

The UNHCR suggests that guidelines be put in place to ensure that AMIF funds are spent strategically. Firstly, it is suggested that 30% of a state’s AMIF funds should be spent on integration. Secondly, they posit that AMIF funding should be tied to measurable integration objectives.

1. Has the Commission considered allocating a percentage of a state’s AMIF funds to integration?

2. What does the Commission plan to do to measure the outcomes of integration efforts in Member States?

3. What are the Commission’s plans to specifically target funds towards language training for refugees?
