Closure of the Bicske refugee camp

Question for written answer E-000970-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Csaba Molnár (S&D)

The government’s recent closure of the Debrecen refugee camp was followed by the closure of other EU-financed facilities. This might entail repayment of EU funding. In December 2016 the Hungarian authorities closed the Bicske refugee camp, which was financed partly by the European Refugee Fund and partly by emergency aid from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. Under the rules governing these funds, facilities renovated under a project thus financed must be kept in use for at least 10 years from the project completion. If a camp is closed or used for another purpose, the Commission may demand the repayment of part of the funding provided. I would therefore like to ask the following:

How much EU funding can the Commission demand that the Hungarian authorities repay following the closure of the Bicske refugee camp?

Does the Commission expect a new infringement procedure to be opened against the Hungarian government as a result of the repeated violations of the EU’s asylum rules?
