Accessibility for persons with a disability and the single market

Question for written answer E-001149-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Dominique Martin (ENF)

A new directive on access to products and services for persons with a disability is currently being drawn up. Under the pretext of imposing universal accessibility, the directive is in fact being used to consolidate the uniformisation of European legislation in this area. The Commission is exploiting this issue in order to impose uniform legislative constraints on Member States, local and regional authorities and firms in the name of an abstract single market ideology.

Will uniformisation of this kind imposed by the Commission not necessitate complex and costly measures at national level?

Does the Commission intend to leave the Member States, local and regional authorities and firms to bear the whole cost?
