Parliamentary questions
27 February 2017
E-001259-17
Question for written answer
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Syed Kamall (ECR)

Subject:  VP/HR — Ethiopian opposition leader
 Answer(s)

I have been contacted by a constituent who has concerns over the detention of a ‘prominent opposition leader in Ethiopia called Merera Gudina’, arrested on his arrival back in Addis Ababa from a meeting in the European Parliament.

The Commission is requested to answer the following:

Is it aware of this detention and any similar incidents?

If so, is it monitoring the ongoing and steadily deteriorating situation in Ethiopia regarding the Oromo People’s Congress party?
