GALILEO global navigation system and compatible mobile communication devices

The GALILEO global navigation system, launched by the Commission and the European Space Agency, aims to provide an alternative to the Russian GLONASS and the American GPS systems.

This system has only recently become operational. However, very few mobile telephone devices currently available on the market are compatible with the European system.

Given that this system is planned to serve essentially civilian purposes:

What measures is the Commission considering to promote the development of civil technologies that are fully compatible with GALILEO?

Does the Commission feel that compatibility with GALILEO must be a legal requirement to market new mobile communication devices within the Union?
